Designed for Gathering: The Joinery at Elk Cove’s Estate Room

Anna Campbell, Co-Owner and Creative Director of Elk Cove Vineyards, recently shared her vision behind Elk Cove’s new tasting room and how The Joinery became a partner in bringing the space to life. Below, Anna shares the inspiration behind the Estate Room and how thoughtful design, natural materials, and handcrafted furniture contribute to the Elk Cove experience.

Elk Cove Vineyards has deep roots in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Founded more than fifty years ago, the family-owned winery has long been guided by a connection to the land and the belief that both wine and hospitality should reflect a true sense of place. When the family-owned winery set out to reimagine its tasting room, the goal was to create a space that would honor that history while welcoming guests into the landscape that defines their wines.

The new Estate Room, designed with soaring mass timber beams and expansive windows, offers sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards and forests. Natural materials play a central role in the experience, allowing visitors to feel immersed in the environment even on Oregon’s rainiest days.

To complement the architecture, Elk Cove partnered with The Joinery to create handcrafted tasting tables and a conference table.

Craft and Connection

Wine tasting is inherently sensory – a gathering of people, place, and time. Elk Cove wanted the furniture to enhance that experience while reinforcing a sense of Oregon’s landscape.

The Joinery crafted custom Western Walnut tables that introduced warmth and tactile richness to the room, offering a darker contrast to the surrounding mass timber. The Joinery provided custom design options including product renderings that allowed the Elk Cove team to easily visualize how different designs could work within the space, while maintaining flexibility for different types of gatherings.

Since installation, guests naturally interact with the tables, resting a glass, tracing the grain, settling into conversation. The furniture has become part of the ritual of tasting.

Shared Values

The collaboration grew from a shared appreciation for craftsmanship and longevity. Elk Cove’s Winemaker and Co-Owner, Adam Campbell, had previously worked with The Joinery and admired the attention to detail and enduring quality of their furniture.

For Anna Campbell, the connection runs even deeper.

“Both wine and wood carry signatures of the places where they were grown — the amount of sunlight, the climate, the environment. Choosing locally made furniture that expressed a sense of place just made sense to us.” — Anna Campbell

Just as Elk Cove’s wines reflect the Willamette Valley terroir, The Joinery’s furniture reflects the character of the wood itself, carefully crafted to last for generations.

Designed for the Next Fifty Years

When the tables were installed, they completed the Estate Room in a meaningful way, transforming the architecture into a space people could truly experience.

“Handcrafted furniture tells visitors that every part of the guest experience matters to us,” Anna Campbell reflects. “It shows that we are investing in our future and that we intend to be here for the next fifty years and beyond.”

Elk Cove’s wine and their Joinery tables were each shaped by the land and designed to be shared. To visit Elk Cove’s Tasting room or make reservations visit their website.
